Occasionally a photo isn't by itself a thousand words. Just beyond the stop sign at the next block is a busy street she crossed by herself. If you could see beyond the stop sign, there is a yellow house on the next corner where she turned to walk down the driveway for the middle school, adjacent to the high school's turf field where she has soccer practice. It is a short walk, but it is the first in many milestones of becoming an independent person. Next week, she will walk a block farther by herself.
I managed to not cry, but I did watch her cross the street before I turned to walk back home.
